…is a not-for-profit, unincorporated voluntary organization of print, broadcast, and internet film critics based in or serving publication in the Houston metropolitan area, the Gulf Coast region, and beyond who meet our membership criteria. We count San Antonio as an affiliate city and include its eligible critics among our collective.

Founded in 2007, the Houston Film Critics Society helps to organize and coordinate the local area film critics community, and bring the wonders of cinema to the public at large.

Our Purposes Include:

  • Encouraging the publication and broadcasting of substantive critical commentary on film, and cooperation among those regularly engaged in film criticism in the region.
  • Increasing public awareness and appreciation for cinematic excellence.
  • Recognizing extraordinary accomplishment in film through the selection of annual recipients of Houston Film Critics Awards and publicizing of those awards.
  • Honoring both current and former distinguished members of the Society and their contributions to the Society’s mission.
