Houston Film Critics Society Announces ‘POTUS Fest’

Houston Film Critics Society logo

With real news about the presidential election dominating the air waves and digital universe, the Houston Film Critics Society celebrates the reel lessons of leadership with its virtual salute to films about US Presidents and the election process in POTUS Fest: Cinema in Chief.

Movie fans can now view Society members’ comments and reviews on films with presidential story lines at www.HoustonFilmCritics.com.  Participating members chose these films for the ways in which they enhance understanding of what it takes to lead the United States. From fictional to actual narratives, these films illuminate the demands, disappointments and determination that define our Presidents.

“Movies take us places we may never visit in person,” says Society President Doug Harris, “and that includes the Oval Office.  “The events of the weeks confirm that we are in the middle of an extraordinary period in American politics.  And by extraordinary, I mean bizarre, unpredictable, and off the rails crazy. Another look at these exceptional films might help reset the public’s expectations of what could be.  Or should be. Maybe.”

In addition to these films suggestions—which include informatin on where these films can be found and  seen– the Society will offer a Zoom discussion on Sunday, October 25 at 3:00 PM Central featuring a panel of three of its members, Joe Leydon (Variety), Joshua Starnes (Coming Soon), and Donna Copeland (Texas Art & Film). Each will discuss the American President in cinema and take questions from their online audience.  The Zoom discussion is available at no charge to those who reserve a ticket, while supplies last.

Visit this link on the EventBrite platform to reserve free tickets. Tax-deductible donations will be welcomed as well.
